Embracing the health in mental health

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 25% of adults suffer from some type of mental illness each year, but unfortunately, the majority of those who need help don't seek treatment. Negative stereotypes and the stigma that surrounds mental health may be one of the reasons people don't seek care when they need it most. The good news is that most mental illnesses are treatable, especially if symptoms are identified early on.

Screenings in a minute!
Visit a CVS MinuteClinic location for a health screening with no appointment necessary. Screenings are free for employees and spouses/SSDPs on the Emory medical plan. By completing a screening and the online Compass Health Risk Assessment you are eligible for $150 towards your Emory medical plan.

Colorful Choices all around
Colorful Choices, a six-week nutrition challenge encouraging employees to make healthier eating choices, just wrapped on May 7. The 2,877 participants were challenged to eat at least five servings of produce each day, with a minimum of three vegetable servings.

Wellness Champions: A show of appreciation

On Thursday, April 13, Emory recognized its Council of Wellness Champions for their contributions to the health and well-being of employees at the second Annual Wellness Champion Appreciation Luncheon. The event, held at the Michael C. Carlos Museum and attended by more than fifty Wellness Champions from Emory University and Emory Healthcare, featured speeches by Mary Beth Allen, Chief Human Resources Officer of Emory Healthcare, and Matthew Early, Vice President of Campus Services.

Emory's Wellness Champions serve as the "go to" people for all things health and well-being within their department. They assist with the implementation of important programs such as the Move More Challenge and Know Your Numbers and serve as motivators and encouragers to their co-workers.
