Tobacco Cessation
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 20 percent of Americans 18 years of age or older currently smoke cigarettes. If you have tried to quit smoking and were unsuccessful, take comfort. Many smokers attempt to quit several times before quitting successfully. View these “practice runs” as part of the normal journey toward becoming a nonsmoker. Now is the best time to try again, and FSAP can help.
Freedom From Smoking: This American Lung Association program is a group class that includes eight sessions and features a step-by-step plan for quitting smoking. Each session is designed to help smokers gain control over their behavior.
Class topics include:
| Session 1: Thinking About Quitting |
Session 5: Winning Strategies |
| Session 2: On the Road To Freedom |
Session 6: The New You |
| Session: 3: Wanting to Quit |
Session 7: Staying Off |
| Session 4: Quit Day |
Session 8: Celebration |
The science-based curriculum and format encourages participants to work on the process and problems of quitting both individually and as part of a group. Participants develop individual "Quit Plans" to prepare for Quit Day, which is
three weeks into the program.
Sessions are offered throughout the year.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Space fills quickly, so please call FSAP at
404-727-4328 if you wish to be put on the waiting list or have any questions about the program.
One-on-one Counseling: Our behavioral mental health clinicians can help you manage the emotional side effects of breaking a nicotine addiction.
Tobacco Cessation Medications: An evaluation for cessation medications, such as Chantix and Zyban, can be completed at the FSAP without paying the co-pay associated with a doctor's visit. Prescriptions can be provided if appropriate.
